1. Relaxing - A holiday vacation is about relaxing and not having to rush to go anywhere.  Sit back and relax and take in a kayak ride, canoe ride or get out in a motor boat for a fun adventure.  Sit at the evening campfire or enjoy a cozy wood fireplace or wood stove inside your Cottage or Chalet Rental.  Have a massage therapist drop by and provide onsite massage therapy inside your place.

4. Fully Equipped Kitchens - For health reasons and budget reasons it is always fantastic to find a place to stay where you don't have to worry about eating out constantly.  Most resorts provide a fridge, stove, kettle, coffee maker, microwave, toaster and a propane barbecue on your private deck.  
5. On the Lake - The majority of Cottage Resort out there are located on the lake.  To wake up in the morning and enjoy your morning coffee looking out over the lake is amazing therapy.  The sit and end your night at the evening campfire is also very relaxing.

Family Gatherings - A large number of families get together throughout the year to celebrate family but they often do this in their own homes which most find overwhelming.  Hosting a gathering is much easier at a cottage resort.  It feels like home but without all of the work on one person.  Weddings are another big draw at a cottage rental where guests can enjoy a full weekend from September to June and have a great vacation at the same time.  During summer most resorts are weekly only attracting a large number of families.
7. Stress Free Stay Vacations -  You don't have to worry about boarding a plane, getting passports, parking and all of the other anxieties that come with heading to another country or province.  Plane tickets, trains and bus trips are not cheap so to avoid that you can do a Stay Vacation.  In the north you can still get out to enjoy restaurants, shopping, theatre and so much more.
8. Business Gatherings for Employees and Customers - Yes Cottage Resorts do have internet so businesses can still function while away from the office.  A large number of businesses are taking their employees away to feel refreshed and to motivate them to feel part of a great team. Cottage Getaway or a Hotel Getaway? What they have to offer and what would you pick?

I own a Cottage Resort in the Almaguin Highlands north of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.  I have often wondered what our guests views are when it comes to booking a cottage over a hotel.  I guess it is a matter of opinion.
Well here is what I think and I would love feedback on this.  I will list my views with hopes of reaching guests to share with them what cottage resorts have to offer.  Let me know what you think?

• A family of 4 can rent at a vacation rental for a rate starting at $100/night.  This rate comes with a full kitchen, full washroom, separate bedrooms, large deck, propane barbecue.
• A Cottage Resort that includes a DVD Player with over 60 complimentary movies in each cottage or chalet.  Most hotels charge extra if you want to watch a movie.
• Renting at Cottage comes with amazing lakeviews while at most hotels you get to look out to see a parking lot or other buildings.
• A hotel offers high speed internet, wireless and cable television and a resort offers high speed internet, wireless and satellite television.
• A hotel stay includes a fitness centre and an indoor pool, now this would be a challenge because we don't have an indoor pool and we don't have a fitness centre.  We can offer our guests a weed free fresh water shallow sandy lake, we offer 6 boats that are complimentary and a great way to exercise.  Instead of running on a treadmill you can run on our local roads with large trees on each side and birds singing for music.  You can rent bicycles and all kinds of sport equipment.  In the winter we don't have a pool but you can cross country ski, down hill ski, snow shoe, snowmobile, dog sled rides, sleigh rides and even try skijoring with your dog.
• Some hotels offer spa facilities which is a great option for rest and relaxation.  Sand Lake Cottages & Inn can offer you onsite massage therapy right inside your chalet or cottage, have someone come and visit you for a pedicure or manicure and even have someone come for hairstyling.  Stay at our resort to enjoy one of the three wood stoves offered or enjoy one of the two wood fireplaces offered.  
• Hotels do have restaurants on site and a large number of cottage rentals offer restaurants too.  At Sand Lake Cottages & Inn we offer fully equipped kitchens and barbecues on the decks.  You can order a meal and have it delivered to your door or you can visit the many nearby restaurants as short as 2km away.  Now there is no traffic so that 2km will take you 5 minutes or less.
• Most hotels don't offer play areas for children, we offer craft classes, a tree fort to hang out in, 2 slides, 3 swings, mini climbing swing set with hanging bars and lots of sand for the kids to play in.  
• Now lets talk about the views that we already touched base on.  Watch the sunset in the evening, sit at the campfire where we supply complimentary wood, use the horse shoe pitch,  watch the loons on the lake and most of all just enjoy peace and quiet. 
• Business Meetings?  Imagine taking your employees to a resort to discuss business instead of oa hotel.  You could just imagine how they would feel when they came home after the meetings.  A much need rest to reward those great employees.
• The last thing is tourist attractions and a wide variety of choices.  I could go on and on with this one because there are too many to list.
